YOKOI KIDS ANNUAL, VOL. 1, $8, 5½” x 8 ½”, perfect bound, 90 pgs.

What a wild coincidence that this ended up in the hands of a Razorcake contributor who actually gives some kind of shit about video games. Let me be straight with you, Yokoi Kids: I don’t share your enthusiasm for the Game Boy archive. It was a formative system for me too, but most Game Boy games do not offer the depth, either mechanically or emotionally, that grants them any kind of real staying power. That being said, this is a fun little read. I’d honestly love an approach like this to PS1 games because that’s my real nostalgia hole. There are comics, essays, tips and tricks, and flashes of being eight years old and buying a new Nintendo Power. This is an interesting, different nostalgia. –Gwen Static (yokoikids.com)
