WORDS A GAME: Self-titled: LP

Mar 17, 2021

Re-release of the only full-length by this Virginia Beach band who gigged around Virginia, DC, and Pennsylvania in the early/mid-’90s. It’s emotional hardcore, churning and slowish, melodic and chugging, with clean but kinda tuneless vocals, perfect for clutching your backpack straps and bobbing back and forth in the front row at the Kings Head Inn. Sorta sounds like the first Lifetime LP, before they went pop punk. If groovy “Cult of Personality”-core is hitting right now, I feel like this stuff is due for a comeback next, five-minute songs and all. Get on it, but maybe skip the humongous jean shorts. –Chris Terry (cointossrecords.bandcamp.com)
