This record made me happy. For starters, it is really good to see Mutant Pop putting out records again; theirs was always a reliable brand that never disappointed me. So, on to Werecats... They fall nearly dead-center in what I believe to be the Mutant Pop sound: poppy, frenetic, and infectious. And indeed, these Brits are a colorful band (and I’ll spell colorful like the ungrateful colonist that I am), not just visually, but aurally as well. Their brand of pop punk sounds like how I imagine a jaunty collage of primary colors and fluorescent hues would sound. (Synesthesia rules!) The songs are about monsters and girl-/boyfriends and monster girl-/boyfriends, and “Princess Fuckface” is perhaps my favorite song title in the last ten years, although I’m not quite sure why. Postscript: the cover claims that this is available by mailorder only. –The Lord Kveldulfr (Mutant Pop)
