WARHORSE, THE: It’s Been Fun, It’s Been Real, It’s Been Funeral: CD

This is undanceable dance music. It’s chaotic AF and self described as “gluten-free Skidrokyo synthpunk” from Los Angeles, Calif. To be honest, I think this album would be the perfect background music for my D&D campaign. It sounds like dungeon crawling music mixed with anime intros under metalcore vocals. The lyrics are full of witty insults like: “You think you march to the beat of a different drum, but you have no rhythm”; “It’s cute you think you have a soul. It’s lights, camera, asshole,” works equally as a critique of Hollywood and as a tongue-in-cheek cam-girl intro. The song titles are similarly plays on words like “Bone Apple Tea,” “Avocado Ghost,” and my personal favorite “Cupid’s Aro.” If that wasn’t enough bedlam disorder for you, there’s also morbid Phil Collins reference in “I Can Phil It” and a cover of Sugar Ray’s “Fly.” It’s encouraging to me to see this sort of enjoyably wanton mischief on a CD and not just on SoundCloud. –Lorien Lamarr (Kill All Music, killxallxmusic.com)
