VARIOUS ARTISTS: Swamp Cabbage Records Swamp Comp 4: CS

Nov 22, 2017

Growing up, I was a huge fan of the Punk-O-Rama comps, and the love of those compilations has led me to get excited anytime a label releases one. Orlando’s Swamp Cabbage Records commemorated their fiftieth release by producing a compilation of twenty-two songs by twenty-two bands that have released music (or will be releasing music) through the label. I love lime green and how striking the color is, so the swamp ooze shade they chose to use for the limited one hundred copy cassettes was perfect. This comp has a lot of easy listening pop punk, and standout tracks are Jagger Holly “Some Guys Have All the Luck,” Skinny Genes “Words with Friends with Benefits,” The Handsome Scoundrels “Nailed It,” The Windowsill “Set on Breaking My Heart,” and The Parasites “Die Trying.” There are a few covers, including The Raging Nathans take on Devo’s “Gates of Steel,” and a Caffiends stab at Andrew W.K.’s ”Party Till You Puke.” Be sure to pick up one of these cute green tapes before they’re gone! ¬–Cynthia Pinedo (Swamp Cabbage, swampcabbagerecords.com)
