Compilation of underground bands from England that sprouted up in the late ’70s and then burned out in a flash. The Machines’ contribution reminds me of The Weirdos. Then there is The Vicars featuring a young Alison Moyet (Upstairs at Eric’s anyone?) on vocals. Most of these bands only lasted a couple years so although the energy is full tilt, the time for songwriting precision did not really happen. But the anger punches through like a sledgehammer, so it’s still an enjoyable listen. The song by The Prey really sounds like The Jam, so hopefully Wellah won’t get too mad. –Sean Koepenick (Angels In Exile, angelsinexile.com)
