I used to go to sludge metal shows and get pissed off at the sketchy “heritage not hatred” Confederate shit that the bands were peddling. Go for the riffs, leave because of the racism. Along with Vagina Witchcraft absolutely slaying at this style of music, it’s exciting to see that they have a Black woman singer (and no Dixie flags, duh). This Canadian band brings on the funereal dirges with skin-crawling early-Sabbath leads and a knack for knowing when to speed things up and hit a headbanging groove. Add in lyrics about torment and depression and soundbites of pro-Black spoken word and I am sold. Six songs in about thirty-nine minutes. –Chris Terry (Self-released,
