This record utilizes a range of the best tropes of your darker new wave stalwarts without going completely goth. “On a Corner” features slow, hollow drums presenting an old school bump-and-grind beat framing dreamy, echo-laden vocals. The album picks up speed with “I Am Forton Wreck,” an angrier mid-paced offering. Loud snare slaps steady the song while the vocal track weaves nicely among a danceable beat. The song range moves effortlessly through a tasteful mix of Cocteau Twins ethereal optimism and Jesus And Mary Chain-inspired guitar swingers with a bit of Sisters Of Mercy’s first album thrown in. It’s a good record for the fun loving new-waver. –Billups Allen (Emotional Response, emotionalresponserecs.bandcamp)
