TRIGGER KID AND THE ENDING MAN: Kings and Slaves: LP

Trigger Kid And The Ending Man are drums and guitar churning out echo-drenched chug riffs and driving them in and out of peaks and valleys of ambience. The effect rides the line between heavy psych and sludge rock. To be honest, it had to grow on me a bit, but the album has some genuinely creative moments. It’s quite a good record for a first album. I don’t mean to be rude about it, but I’m more engaged with the album when the vocals drop out. When they do, the music comes across like the soundtrack to a strange horror movie. The cover is of a cloaked man reaching out for a child sitting on a tree stump, so horror movies seems to be an influence. The album also contains a ripper or two. “Wire” is a mover in the vein of early Amphetamine Reptile rockers. I’d say those into non-formulaic stoner music should give this a listen. –Billups Allen (On The Run)
