SUBURBAN RESISTANCE: Songs of the Dead: 2 x LP

Jan 25, 2023

With clean production and focus on melody, it’s tempting to pigeonhole this Las Vegas group as pop punk. For their third album, they made it a double LP, with oodles of influences beyond the typical ones to expect. The horror-themed artwork and title is given Cramps-like nods throughout, along with occasional hardcore riffs that are unexpected for a band that largely sounds like Lagwagon. The vocals have an almost emo tenor to them, injecting weighty sentiment into tracks that appear deceptively simple on the surface. Also available on fancily packaged CD and cassette, Songs of the Dead is well worth seeking out. –Art Ettinger (IM, imrecordsstore.com)
