Submerging is a literary zine/chapbook that also features original works of photography. Released in 2020, Issue 4 of Submerging comes saddle-stitched and wrapped in a sleek lavender pink cover that contains an exemplary collection of creative writing and ethereal photographs. Included in the writing are essays by John Ross Bowie and Janet McNally; fiction by Abigail Beshkin and Brendan Kiernan; and poetry by Daniel Carter, Joe McPhee, and McClain Jeffery Moredock. Though not yet household names, each of these writers has breathtaking accomplishments, including performing alongside Sun Ra and Cecil Taylor; being aired on NPR; and winning an assortment of literary prizes, such as the Brooklyn Nonfiction Prize and White Pine Press Poetry Prize. Polaroid photographer Lisa Bocchini captures images that make you feel as if you woke up inside a dream, and they are thoughtfully interspersed throughout the issue. Submerging #4 is itself a dream. –Gina Murrell (Submerging Writers, PO Box 469, Patterson, NY 12563, [email protected])
