STREET EATERS: Simple Distractions: 7”

May 25, 2021

This is a limited picture disc featuring four tracks from the Berkeley-based outfit which has now evolved into a trio with the addition of a guitarist for the first time on record. The three original tracks lose nothing of the primitive rhythm-driven sound of Street Eaters but the addition of six strings eases the band into a new era. I love the new incarnation and the fuller sound comes across so well. It makes me like the band even more. The title track broods away as one would expect, but the guitar creates jagged edges to proceedings. The final track, a cover of Gang Of Four’s “Love like Anthrax,” was recorded live with Maria Paternoster of Screaming Females on guitar and vocals to end on a continued high. –Rich Cocksedge (Nervous Intent, [email protected], nervousintent.com)
