STATE DRUGS: live. laugh. love.: LP

Reserved as an aesthetic. Mature as a blueprint. A mile above sea level, tucked away in the Rocky Mountains, State Drugs offer sentimental pop-rock that feels like it could be completely at home in a empty bar in Laramie, a packed living room in Portland, or a two-thousand person capacity theater in Chicago. They’re hitting a pretty sweet spot between The Weakerthans and The Gin Blossoms. But I don’t exactly understand where the catharsis is in music that feels this withdrawn, though it probably just feels good to play music that’s thoughtfully constructed and honestly delivered. So while I’m probably not going to make it to the show, I’m glad it’s happening. –Daryl (Snappy Little Numbers / Ashtray Monument)
