I’m always a little hesitant when a classic band from the past puts out a new record. Expectations run unrealistically no matter what band it is. Don’t expect to hear In Control 2.0. That’s not going to happen. That record was of a time and place that can never be repeated under any circumstances. Fill in the Silence is a pretty damn good record that should be allowed to stand on its own. They don’t mess around here and come out with both guns a’blazing! John from the Missing 23rd (and Detoxi, The Fucking Wrath) is on vocals now, and that’s good choice. He gives these songs an extra bit of snarl and toughness, adding punch in tandem to Larry White’s drumming. Then there’s Blake Cruz’s guitar playing. He’s on fire with the solos and bringing in the crunch. The updated “Black Stix” is my favorite on this album—and all the songs are good—but I like how this one builds in intensity. You can’t go wrong with this one. Listening to this makes me want to see them play live. –Matt Average (Puke v Vomit, pukenvomitrecords.com, [email protected])
