A comic by Edie Quinn about an overworked dialysis nurse on the verge of a breakdown. The unnamed nurse is the only one on her short-staffed unit who knows how to use a particular machine. And that machine has to be used on a particular patient at least once a day. The comic goes through the nurse’s inner thoughts about no longer having time to herself, how easy things would get if the patient died, and wondering if she herself is a bad person. It doesn’t help that the patient is a bigot and does nothing to take care of themselves. The artwork is kind of a choppy realism style. It works for the bleakness of the story. It’s a quick read and it’s very relatable if you have worked in any sector of the healthcare industry the past couple of years. –Rick V. (
