SOUL BUTCHERS: Skin on Fire: CD

Dec 06, 2019

Buffalo’s Soul Butchers fuse a lot of varied influences into what winds up being an extremely cool sound. Heavily influenced by complex earlier groups like Mission Of Burma and The Minutemen, they also borrow heavily from blues, country, and various other musical forms, including 1980s Euro pop. None of it comes off contrived, blending into an aggressive garage punk amalgam that hits hard. I’ve seen them play, and this recording captures their live essence wonderfully. Simultaneously raw and intricate, Skin on Fire is well worth seeking out. –Art Ettinger (Self-released, soulbutchers.bandcamp.com)
