So, the concept on this Montreal band’s record is that it’s a grisly legendarium of Canada’s “hidden history” via punk rock tuneage. It’s a great concept, as death, murder, shipwrecks, and other bits of history’s smelly underbelly are always good lyrical fodder. And the music is fast, aggressive, and melodic, so this is the full package. The sound has vague folk punk undertones lurking under the surface of the punk rock maelstrom, but that might be more the influence of the lyrical content than anything I’m actually hearing in this. This is a really good record that has grown on me with every play; it would be great record to sing along drunkenly to with one’s five closest and most sodden friends. –The Lord Kveldulfr (No address listed)
