Milwaukee’s The Sketchballs were founded by Kyle Rupnow with the intent of blending punk-influenced lyrics with various styles of music. The result is an interesting blend of lo-fi garage punk that I found held up after repeat listens. The quirkiness of this made it sound like something I’d imagine on Dischord if The Sketchballs were from D.C. and not Wisconsin. They also do a mean cover of “Paranoid” that starts off rather traditionally before taking a sharp detour that would make Ozzy and Iommi both do spit-takes.
