Like you, I’ve always heard about the legendary import of the Screamers, a first- wave Los Angeles punk band that never recorded a proper album but has consistently been mentioned in hushed tones of reverence by bands and individuals who saw them live. I’ve checked out some of their stuff on YouTube, but haven’t had a chance to sit with the band until now—and holy shit! This one is a complete mindblow. Their double-synth-and-drums attack sounds both completely jarring and timeless: there’s still no contemporary analogue to these cats sound-wise, especially when Tomata du Plenty’s vocals are taken into account. I’m glad this one has seen the light of day—just stunning. –Michael T. Fournier (Superior Viaduct, superiorviaduct.com)
