SCIENCE MAN / NERVOUS TICK AND THE ZIPPER LIPS: The Covid Collaborations: Vol. 1: CS

I like the idea behind this series: “Nervous Tick and The Zipper Lips and another recording artist. Both parties will record an original song, a cover of a song by the other party, as well as a song musically to have the other party finish with vocals and whatever else is needed.” For this round they got Buffalo’s Science Man. Both acts are essentially one-man bands that have a dirty garage rock sound. The Nervous Tick tracks are chaotic and wild. The Science Man songs have swagger and channel The Reatards quite effectively. There’s a fine line for me when it comes to garage rock. I like it to have some muscle and in that regard, Science Man hits me harder than The Nervous Tick. Still, they’re both good and this is a solid release. It’ll be cool to hear what future volumes produce. –Kurt Morris (scienceman.bandcamp.com)
