RYEIN EVAN: Beach Buzzing, Vol. 1: CS

Jan 05, 2022

The tape contains eleven surf-influenced numbers. There’s a range of influence in the riffs, although the guitar stays waterlogged in reverb and distortion, similar to how Jesus And Mary Chain did their more upbeat songs. There is definitely a “Sidewalking” vibe to the whole tape seared in with the vocals and lyrics, but Evan distinguishes with some nice original melodies and solid range of pace, keeping the tape interesting. “Remember” starts with bastardized ’60s jabs and moves into a nice back and forth riff that involves head nodding. “Noelle” is slower fare with a catchy mid-tempo swing in the drums. “Take Drugs” is an upbeat tune with a clap-along vibe. The whole tape has a nice surf/wash vibe. I don’t know if that’s the only significance to the title, but I could definitely see taking it to the beach. –Billups Allen (Love Shine)
