RYAN AND PONY: Moshi Moshi: CD

Dec 03, 2020

Guitar-driven indie pop that honestly left me pretty bored. It’s got slick production with ballads that never really go anywhere. It’s like they’re driving twenty mph in a sixty zone and I wish someone would please step on the gas. This band is specifically a two piece (guitar and bass) but this record has drums and synth as well, and I’m just not into it. It’s not my wheelhouse and it sounds like they’re angling for radio and mainstream exposure. The arrangements and melodies are unique in the sense that I can’t place any bands that sound like them, but again, it’s not a style of music that I care to listen to. The last song is a Prince cover with all the magic sucked out of it. One of the members also plays in Soul Asylum. I don’t know what else to say. –Kayla Greet (Pravda)
