Salinas, California’s Rum & Rebellion (not to be confused with Portland’s Rum Rebellion) are too gritty and edgy to be straight-up folk punk, but too folksy and earthy not to be. Indeed, they don’t fall neatly into any one “punk” category, and that’s much to their credit, as their tunes are varied in sound but always engaging. Were I to hazard a potentially ludicrous comparison, which I most certainly will, I’d say Rum & Rebellion sound kind of like Blatz meet the Pine Hill Haints with a touch of the Pogues, emphasis somewhat towards the Blatz end of the spectrum. –The Lord Kveldulfr (Rum & Rebellion, rumandrebellion.com)
