RED THREADS: Out of the Blue: CS

I wouldn’t call this EP easy listening. Within the first few seconds of the first song, I realized I wasn’t high enough for this. Red Thread’s latest release is sort of like if you took a Can LP, scratched it to shit and left it out in the sun for a few hours: It’s weird, it’s warped, and it doesn’t make much sense. There are threads of intelligible melodies in a song or two (I did dig parts of “Mr. Baby”) but Out of the Blue is a little too out-there for me. Side B is one “song,” which sounds like they just recorded a loose jam session and sprinkled a couple of effects on top. I dunno, I like it when albums have a modicum of structure. Then again, I’m kind of a square. –Simone Carter (Self-released, [email protected], redthreadsband.bandcamp.com)
