RED KATE: “Iraqi Girl” b/w “American Zone”: 7”

May 23, 2018

Following Red Kate’s recent split 7” with Stiff Middle Fingers, this single keeps the band’s momentum moving in the right direction. Both tracks—a new song and a T.S.O.L. cover—are straight-up, punchy punk rock in which the rhythm section really drives them along. “Iraqi Girl” in particular benefits from a heavy bassline and a repetitive guitar riff throughout, whilst “American Zone” is treated with enough reverence without it seeming like a pointless copy. There are rumors that this Kansas City outfit might be heading to Germany later in the year for a few shows, so I might have to get my passport out for some travelling to mainland Europe. –Rich Cocksedge (Too Much Rock, toomuchrock.com)
