The first LP release on the Dot Dash Sounds label run by WFMU DJ and NYC mover and shaker Tom Dash, this is full-on, hard and heavy MC5 dual-guitar garagey rock’n’roll punk worship from Western Mass’s Red Herrings. There was a time in the mid-’90s when the budding garage rock revival filled my plate with this type of blown-out garage punk, with bands like the New Bomb Turks ruling the land. Red Herrings take that sound, that feel, and build on it rather than just aping it. Howling vocals, soaring, heavy, riffed-out guitars and a pummeling rhythm section leave little down time, and I’m here for every bit of it. –Mark Twistworthy (Dot Dash Sounds,, [email protected])
