Two of the San Gabriel Valley underground’s best songsmiths, Joey Kelly (Mad Parade) and Paul Almanza (Steps, Mad Parade, Million Six), have unleashed this whopper of a collection of songs they recorded in 2007. They deftly meld many of the varied musical corners they’ve strip-mined for decades—hefty handfuls L.A./U.K. punk and power pop laced with a hint of ’60s jangle, a smidge of straightforward rock, and even an acoustic guitar—into four tasty tunes that are immediate yet steeped in a maturity that’s too often uncommon to bands that like to work the hyphen between “pop” and “punk.” Word is this EP is super-limited, but very much worth the hunt. –Jimmy Alvarado (Gutterwail, madparade.biz)
