I am so old and cranky at this point that I am constantly frustrated with labeling and defining subgenres of punk rock. Pop punk is such a bland term that rarely evokes the description I’m trying to impart, but I suppose it’s a place to start. Edmonton, Alberta’s Real Sickies are firmly entrenched in the Ramones side of things, but with a contemporary flair not unlike fellow Canadians Chixdiggit! and Steve Adamyk Band. This all makes me very happy. The “rock ‘n’ roll radio” organ that threads its way through the entire album always brings a smile to my face. There are love songs and full-on punk blasts. This is an incredibly fun album. I’ve heard they put on an amazing live show, and I hope to someday witness it firsthand. –Ty Stranglehold (Stomp)
