Razorcake Podcast #818 When Horns Are Okay 20, It’s a Bugle-ful World We Live in with Ethan, Todd, and Tim

Mar 24, 2023

Disclaimer for social media: We’ve already played The Saints, Rocket From The Crypt, and X-Ray Spex. We’re not playing genres of music, like ska, that are defined by the existence of a horn in most, if not all, of the songs. Sure, we’ll play genres that aren’t punk, but are exciting to us, like Tina Turner ripping apart “Proud Mary.”

What we’re doing is searching far and wide, old and new, internationally (Montreal in this one, while Poland and France will feature prominently in future episodes), cobwebbed corners, orphans and horn-runts of songs played by bands that only used horns once or twice in decades-long careers (like the Angelic Upstarts (RIP Mensi)). As of this writing, we’ve captured over 550 songs and the well’s still not dry.

I know the internet’s not a place for deep reflection, but if you want to make a helpful suggestion of a song to be included in a future horn-cast, look here to see what we’ve already played (https://razorcake.org/?s=when+horns+are+okay). Otherwise, just pop off, make an obvious suggestion, don’t expect a response from us, and carry on with your day.

With some research under his belt, Ethan can confirm that the Brass Against singer peed on a fan onstage.

Welcome to When Horns Are Okay 20. The subtitle may be a lie. I’m unsure if any bugles were played in the commission of this podcast, but we’re a suckers for puns.
