RAS: Pas le Temps de Regretter: 12”

RAS were a part of the first wave of French oi, a scene which is a treasure-trove of great, unique bands (though some had some pretty dodgy politics). The scene is starting to get a lot of notoriety lately with the hype behind Rixe and bands like Warrior Kids and Komintern Sect finally playing the U.S. after so many years. RAS weren’t as popular or prolific as either of those bands, but did manage to record an okay 7” and a very good LP in the early ‘80s before breaking up. This release is a new recording of songs written in the mid-‘80s that were never properly recorded back then. The recording is full and the songs are honestly better than some of the ones on their classic LP. I’ve been a fan of the band for several years and it’s cool to see that this release was handled with respect. It sounds like the band did it for fun and it just turned out well. Members of Komintern Sect and L’Infanterie Savauge fill in on a couple guest spots. Worth it if you are a fan of classic French oi or it’s a genre you want to explore and you need a starting point. –Ian Wise (Contra, contra-net.com)
