RANK/XEROX: “Cradle of Life” b/w “Servants in Heaven”: 7”

“Servants in Heaven” is a slow boil, a kind of meandering post-punk with breathy vocals. Maybe like Psychedelic Furs if they raided the drug cabinet at the dentist’s office and got reallll sloooowwww, I don’t know. That song’s nearly six plodding minutes. Flip fares better—half the length, bass serving as the backbone, but still with those breathy, unbothered vocals. Beautiful minimalist packaging. I could see this being intimate and cool as hell live, that bass so loud you felt it in your guts, but I’m just not quite feeling the recording. Just seems a little toothless and unworried. –Keith Rosson (Iron Lung)
