PROUD PARENTS: Live at Union Pool: CS

Sep 22, 2022

I kinda love the Proud Parents. They have the boy/girl trade-off vocals, and that whole sort of sweet/sour duality kinda wends its way throughout their entire corpus delecti, you know what I’m saying? Sometimes there’s yelling and sometimes there’s harmony, or sometimes there’s smashing and sometimes there’s jangle, but the various yin-yang joustings are all bound up together in one zippy, melodic package that always sounds fresh and fun. I think the trick is that there’s always more sweet than sour going on in their music, but they fool you into thinking it’s 50/50 because they are experts at criminal psychology. This particular performance is spirited and upbeat; the cymbals fill out the sound in a way that you’ll never get on record, and the band zings right along for eleven songs, short and sweet. Thirty years from now this will be bootlegged on CD-R by Tiranasaurus Recs, so you might as well get in on the ground floor. BEST SONG: “Ducktales.” BEST SONG TITLE: “Hypnotoad,” which would explain the mind control. FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: “Art and layout by Nebulous They.”–Rev. Nørb (Primitive Screwhead)
