PROOF I EXIST #39, $3, 5½” x 4¼”, copied, 40 pgs.

Jan 27, 2023

In this latest issue of his long-running perzine, Billy McCall ruminates on celebrity. After recalling encounters with humor writer David Sedaris (“I find everything he does to be charming, humorous, and entertaining”) and cult filmmaker John Waters (“I tried not to geek out and embarrass myself”), Billy dedicates the rest of Proof I Exist #39 to porn star and rock musician Bridget the Midget, aka Bridget Powers. After decades of crushing on Bridget, beginning with his job at a porn store at age twenty, Billy finally gets the chance to meet her as a forty-one-year-old, queer married man with a wife. With friend Frankie, Billy sees Bridget perform at an area strip club, where he gets the opportunity to share his feelings in a note he gives her and revels in her appreciation during her stage performance, where she “rubbed her sweaty little perky tits all over my face.” Aptly titled “A Dream Come True,” Proof I Exist #39 proves that celebrity crushes can exceed one’s wildest dreams. –Gina Murrell (Billy McCall, PO Box 8818, Albuquerque, NM 87198)
