Post-punk/pop from a band outta Australia. For the most part they shoot the tube somewhere between Wire’s minimalist stabs and Jonathan Richman’s slyly dopey every-guy-pop, with deceptively simple songs embellished with nicely layered clean-channel guitars. When they really slow things down, as in “Swimming in a Bathful of Ghosts” and “The Time of the Sabre-Toothed Tiger,” their strengths really shine, resulting in a sound that is by turns haunting and mesmerizing. –Jimmy Alvarado (Goner)
