Potbelly is one of those bands by whom I’m alternately smitten and bored. Sometimes their brand of angry, obnoxious punk gets me wanting to fight in the streets, and then sometimes the same record seems conventional (by punk standards) makes me say, “Meh.” By and large this had me wanting to fight more than meh, so take that as it is. Indonesia’s Marjinal play fairly standard-sounding punk rock, but with instrumentation running through it reminiscent of Southeast Asia’s indigenous music, making them sound like what a blockheaded Westerner might think that Indonesian punk rock should sound like. –The Lord Kveldulfr (PB)
