In the late ’90s, Cheap Trick re-recorded some of their prime ’70s material with Steve Albini, the guy who produced Nirvana’s In Utero. Albini’s raw production gave some of the catchiest rock music ever written the power to break hearts and burst entire cases of beer with one cymbal crash. Milwaukee’s Platinum Boys sound like criminally lost outtakes from those sessions—revved-up power pop with a whole lotta fun and a little bit o’ wistfulness.
