PLASTIC IDOLS: “I.U.D.” b/w “Sophistication”: 7”

This loving reissue of this Houston band’s 1979 single falls somewhere between the artier ends of the KBD trash spectrum and the less limp aspects of flat-out new wavery. The A side features a badass, jerky guitar riff that wouldn’t’ve sounded out of place on a Brainiac album twenty years ago, and the flip is augmented with gonzo frippery from something called a “noise generator.” It would have been cooler if the B side was called “D.U.I.” instead, but I reckon it’s too late to petition for redress of grievances. BEST SONG & TITLE: “I.U.D.” FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: Originally released on Vision Records. –Rev. Nørb (Rerun, rerunrecordsstl.com)
