Unhinged sax honks, hesitant Screamers/Suicide synth jerks, and a singer with a debauched croon that lands somewhere between Mark E. Smith and Iggy Pop. At its no wave-y best, these familiar sounds are combined in a fresh-sounding way. When things lag, I feel like I’m hearing a Fall rehearsal tape... which is still pretty cool! According to Aquarium Drunkard, this is The Pink Noise’s eighth album, and main character Mark Sauner wrote these songs on keyboard while a broken arm was keeping him from playing guitar. Props to him for finding a way to keep the rock rolling. –Chris Terry (thepinknoise.bandcamp.com)
