These guys from Nashville have a sound which is terribly hard to pin down, and that is much to their credit. I can imagine ten different people hearing this in ten distinctly different ways. My take is that their bedrock is melodic hardcore, but with thick veins of psychobilly running through it. There are also ska-ish pockets and some stuff that sounds more like what might be called prog-hardcore or some such terminology that is equally ridiculous and inadequate. And then on another listen the record sounds to me like a punk Rossini opera, and I throw up my hands with the futility of trying to describe Pi Fire adequately. Regardless, I like this. –The Lord Kveldulfr (Self-released, pifire.bandcamp.com)
