PETRIFIED MAX: Years Gone By: CD

May 25, 2021

A couple of members of Trotsky Icepick put together side project of stuff that didn’t quite fit in with that band’s oeuvre. Most of what’s here easily falls within the alternative rock pigeonhole, with strong pop sensibilities and the occasional nod to ’70s rock guitar anthems to make their efforts catchy and memorable. Some of the songs have an odd Beach Boys-meet-Neil Young feel to ’em, which works much better than one would expect. Fine, fun, faboo listen from some vets. –Jimmy Alvarado (Poison Summer, poisonsummerrecords.com)
