PERP WALK: The Chain of Infection: 7”

Sep 22, 2023

“Demagogue” opens this single with a bass line laden with a brooding menace, which is joined by guitars that create a sense of foreboding before the track kicks into life, resulting in a cacophonous hardcore melee. Vocals are barked out incomprehensibly and that, in a nutshell, is what Perp Walk does and does very well over the half dozen tracks here. It’s an ugly sound, switching from a floor-stomping mid-tempo to a whirling dervish-like speed, with psychedelic guitars swirling around oblivious to either pace. This is an intense record, up there alongside the likes of Diall, both bands being equally adept at bringing musical mayhem to their live show, as I’ve recently discovered. –Rich Cocksedge (Crew Cuts, [email protected],
