Stay Dreaming is Partial Traces’ fourth album. I’m not familiar with their previous output, but this record has a great ’80s, torch-style sensibility built of catchy loops, jangly guitar, and great vocals. There is also fun stuff like incidental vocal jabs and instrumentation adding a catchy tastefulness to the choruses. “CA 98” utilizes a great “oh, oh, oh” in the mix. “Margin Notes” finds the band’s formula successful with a mid-paced song. I know my references are outdated, but it’s hard not to evoke Kate Bush. This album has a similar pop sensibility and thoughtfulness. Also great if you enjoy Berlin or Modern English. –Billups Allen (Salinas)
