PANDEMIC ERA NYxHC PARK SHOW, $3 or trade, 4¼” x 5 ½”, copied, 16pgs.

Previously mentioned Liz Jones (see Crappy World #2 review) apprehensively attended a huge hardcore show in Tompkins Square Park in April 2021. At the time it was the biggest hardcore show gathering since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020. Liz starts by giving a little history of shows happening in the park and how they’re mostly pleasant and non-threatening. Then they go on about the “Hardcore Dads of the New Jersey, Queens, and Long Island [who] rolled in for the hardcore revival event of the year.” Liz describes the “hahdcore” show as “being in the middle of a big dads with neck tats Nike vs. Adidas turf war.” They definitely were only at the show to people watch and secondarily see the bands. Liz never once mentions the bands playing but a quick internet search will tell you who. The text-only zine is full of quotables like, “Who knows how many people contracted COVID while moshing to a song about a friend who died of COVID.” It’s a bummer that a good, hearty chunk of this scene are anti-mask, QAnon doofuses. Worth a read and leaving it on the merch table at a tough guy hardcore show. –Rick V.
