PALE ANGELS: Plastic Legacy Pt. 2: LP

Mar 10, 2023

This trio sound like a cross between one of those David Bowie albums where he mostly plays piano and sings, a muted version of those John Lennon songs where he yowls about god or his mother or something, and one of those slow blues songs the Rolling Stones would play in the middle of their set when they needed a break from the rigors of moving their feet a bit. At their most lively, they sound—presumably inadvertently—a little like Fang playing a Paul Westerberg solo number. Compared to this record, the third Velvet Underground album is a boundless cornucopia of jaunty, energetic swagger. I wonder how these guys got so sad? They don’t look that sad on the back cover photograph. Maybe something bad happened in between them taking the photo and them going into the studio. I hope they are okay. BEST SONG: “Must Be Love.” BEST SONG TITLE: “Casper,” I used to like that cartoon. FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: I was holding out hope that the song “Little Lover” was the deep track off the first Hollies album, but it turned out to be the song off of the first AC/DC album, which was just weird. –Rev.
