This Seattle by way of Portland band’s first LP in a decade pulls from generations of PNW rock, from The Wipers through Built To Spill. On these eight songs (four of which hover around the five-minute mark), the crunchy guitars alternate between tight, churning riffs and stretchy brooding while John Magnifico’s mournful wail coasts across the top. The songs are varied enough to keep it interesting while still hanging together as an album, ranging through flannel-clad influences like Neil Young, Mudhoney, and The Meat Puppets. Bright and melancholy as a fall Sunday, this is prime “punk dad backyard beer buzz” music. –Chris Terry (Ashtray Monument, ashtraymonument.com)
