If I were forced into lowering my professional standards and sullying the honor of this fine publication by resorting to describing this band in terms of two wholly dissimilar bands that hail from the same country as the band being reviewed (then again, the phrase “Bon Jovi is tight” appeared in print last issue, so I don’t know how much additional sullying can be done to our honor here), I’d describe these Australians as a heretofore unimaginable cross between a buncha Neanderthal brutes like Feedtime and a gaggle of twee dorks like Icehouse. So, yeah, it’s synthpop, but it’s a sort of pounding, thudding synthpop that’s capable of rattling your silverware drawer as well as Sonic Youth or any of those other weird bands they used to write about in Forced Exposure in the ’80s. It pairs well with black jellybeans and you can stomp empty cans to it. Nocatch a Nowave! BEST SONG: “The Laundry.” BEST SONG TITLE: “Beach Goth.” FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: My copy contained a cool Phantom Records sticker with one of the Beagle Boys on it. –Rev. Nørb (Phantom)
