The intersection of age and imagination is not always as likely as one would hope. We tend to be bitter, jaded monsters as the years add up and we’re left to our own impulses and repressive processes. It’s a crime, and it’s self-committed. Society encourages creativity in the form of money and worship, and everyone else can fuck off. Nonagon seem to have effectively broken out of this terrifying mindset and created a cohesive and imaginative album that’s as refreshing as it is dissonant. An angular, Froberg-inspired brawl of the senses juxtaposing cartoony illustrations of “the majestic creatures of the sky” with primitive post-hardcore providence.
