NASTY S AND THE GHOST CHASERS: Waiting for the Last Gasp of My Generation: CD

Sep 22, 2022

A French guitarist who’s done time in a lot of bands releases a solo album. He’s joined by several guest vocalists to run through an eclectic selection of covers of songs originally by Pegboy, Gun Club, Morrissey, Hard-Ons, Agent Orange, Therapy?, Jawbreaker, Joy Division (an inspired surfy instrumental version of “Transmission”), Samhain (an acoustic take of “To Walk the Night” that eschews the shitty drumbeat of the original and ends up even more haunting), Dag Nasty, House Of Love, and several others. Production is nice ‘n’ crunchy, the songs are diverse yet work well together as a whole, and the performances sound like everyone took the whole thing seriously enough not to sound like they’re just going through the motions. Don’t usually dig “covers” albums as a general rule, but this one ain’t bad at all. –Jimmy Alvarado (Twentysomething, ninteensomething.fr)
