MYSTERY GIRL / MONONEGATIVES: Split: 7” EP

Mar 15, 2022

Mystery Girl: Wow, been a good long while since I last heard anything from these kids. One original and a slowed down cover of The Boys’ “Tumble with Me,” both tinged with the gray power pop they’ve mined so effectively over several records. Mononegatives: Idiosyncratic punk with processed instruments and the occasional synth. Opener sounds like a short, aggro reworking of Devo’s “Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin’),” while the other two slow things down and add more ice. Good stuff from both bands here. –Jimmy Alvarado (Feral Kid, feral-kid-records.bandcamp.com)
