MY NAME IS JOE: Stories of Our Cities: CD

Sep 22, 2016

My Name Is Joe is fronted by a poor man’s Frankie Stubbs (Leatherface). Upon hearing the vocals come out on the first track, I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. It’s as though the vocalist is trying his best to emulate everyone’s favorite gravelly-voiced singer, but not quite getting it. The band is trying to ape Leatherface’s sound, though. It’s much more light-hearted and simplistic—something about it reminded me of the Replacements—with lyrics that deal with left-wing political viewpoints. These twelve songs aren’t bad, per se, but man, I miss Leatherface. –Kurt Morris (Self-released, mynameisjoe.bandcamp.com)
